Lest We Forget

Multiple times in this text we have the admonition to remember and do not forget; to remember lest you forget. It’s almost like we got the name of this series from the Bible . . . Anyhow, the real point is simply that these are two sides to the same coin. “Remember” is the positive and “don’t forget” is the negative, but the admonition is the same. If you do not remember, if you did forget, it won’t just be an oops, like I forgot, like a list of items we need to pack for a trip, or my list of things to do today. Forgetting is not just not remembering. Forgetting in this context is to act in a way that is contrary to the stated goal, and to pursue another objective altogether. We remember because to remember is life.
