Matthew 8.18-9.8

As Jesus taught a regular assessment of his words was that he taught as one who had authority rather than as the Scribes. Authority is not a tonal quality or a presumption of being right, but comes through authenticity. Jesus was not only the King of kings and Lord of lords, he was speaking in a way that engaged life in the midst of those who were living life, and offered an alternative to therapy life situation that was functional, helpful, and meaningful. The authority in Jesus’ words was not just power (the world knows power) but specifically power that overcame the weight and oppression of the fallen world we all know and deal with. His healing, his deliverance and his solutions lead to life abundant, unlike those of religion and the world that offered endless solutions that were just another flavor of the fallen world.
