Significant to our growth in and enjoyment of eternal life is to recognize the role our will plays in all that we do and how we respond both to God and to other persons. Having been created in the likeness and image of God means that our will is powerful, and spiritually substantial, which is often made light in the church out of respect for the Sovereignty of God. We must resist both extremes that either downplay God’s sovereignty, or make light of the real spiritual power of our will as image bearers, and hold ourselves accountable for outcomes, not just in terms of our eternity, but the impact on the entire cosmos.
