Dear Theophilus: Jubilee, when the Spirit moves the margins to the center 

In Luke 4.14–44, Jesus begins his ministry filled with the Holy Spirit, declaring a mission of good news, healing, freedom, and Jubilee for the poor and oppressed, but when he includes Gentiles in God’s mercy, his hometown turns against him. This moment reveals the radical inclusiveness of the Kingdom and the resistance of those who want grace only for themselves. Jesus doesn’t just proclaim Jubilee—He enacts it with power, healing, and deliverance. His ministry centers on the outcast, the outsider, and the unworthy, and he calls us to do the same.
